Celebrate Youth. Confront Barriers. Build Bridges.
Since 2004, Teen HYPE (Helping Youth by Providing Education) has reached more than 35,000 Detroit-area youth through programming that assures every young person reaches their potential. Each year, hundreds of students in dozens of local schools are provided with adolescent health programs that emphasize future-oriented thinking, effective communication and avoiding risky behaviors. Additionally, more than 600 teens have been trained as Peer Educators who are dedicated to community service, social justice, and risk avoidance. Each year they develop an original stage production, focused on a riveting social issue, that reaches over 3,000 students and adults in the community.
TEEN HYPE ENVISIONS A JUST WORLD WHERE ALL YOUTH REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL. WE AIM TO DEVELOP OUR YOUNGEST GENERATION BY PROMOTING HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS, CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS, AND SOCIAL JUSTICE AWARENESS.
“Before Teen HYPE my life was headed down the wrong path. I didn’t have anyone older than me that I could open up to about my problems. Teen HYPE gave me a sense that I am important. I do have a voice.”
Lawrence, Teen HYPE Participant
BUILD THE HYPE | ANNUAL FUNDRAISING BREAKFAST
Our Build the HYPE Breakfast is a stirring presentation of our effectiveness in ensuring young people are “ready to launch” through adolescent health programs, leadership development and theatrical arts. Proceeds from the event benefit our Peer Education program that ultimately reaches 3,000 youth with vital mental health, public health and social justice messages each year.
