For Parents

Teen HYPE offers positive youth development in a variety of ways. If you care for youth who you think could benefit from our Peer Education program, please encourage them to apply. 

For Teachers

Depending on the needs at your institution, we can implement 8, 10, or 13 session evidence- based curriculums to educate and empower the students you serve.

Our Annual Theatrical Production

Most of the young people we connect with in the classroom will also be afforded the opportunity to attend our annual spring theatrical production. These powerful educational productions – edu-tainment, if you will — raise young people’s collective consciousness, honors their voice, and inspires them to avoid risky behaviors. While the topics change from year-to-year, the root of the performances always lies in activating issues related to social justice or teen health. Written and performed by youth, the goal is that each young person in the audience sees themselves on stage and identifies with the positive and help-seeking behaviors showcased in the production.


Typically, 2,000 young people are reached each year through these performances with hundreds more adults in attendance. For the Peer Educators who develop the educational theatrical production, these performances afford extraordinary opportunities to write, perform (acting, dance, vocals, instrumentals, and poetry), work backstage, and market the production. 


Exposure to industry professionals (set designers and builders, architects, professional actors, art directors, script writers, free-lance photographers, videographers, radio announcers, and vocal coaches) is especially impactful for participating youths. Of special significance is their exposure to professionals and entrepreneurs who are underrepresented in the arts, namely women and people of color. Many Peer Educators become inspired to pursue careers in the arts; while many others indicate that the production gave them the conf dence to speak in front of others and to regard themselves as lea ers.Our Peer Educators describe the experience of seeing masses of people coming to see them perform the play they’ve worked on for several months as exhilarating beyond measure! In short, they are forever changed by the experience.
