Teen HYPE recently received funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to implement Effective Behavioral Interventions (EBIs) and Counseling and Testing services under RFA-PS10-1003 HIV Prevention Projects for Community Based Organizations. Teen HYPE has selected the EBI Community PROMISE. The four core elements of Community PROMISE are:
- Community Identification process (CID) to collect information about the community, including HIV/STD risk behaviors and influencing factors
- Creating role model stories based on personal accounts from individuals in the target population who have made positive behavior change
- Recruiting and training peer advocates from the target population to distribute role model stories and prevention materials
- Continuous formative evolution to capture behavior change within the target population.
Teen HYPE’s target population is African American youth age 15-21 residing in or frequenting the zip code 48203 who are at risk for HIV due to unprotected sex with partners of unknown HIV status in a high incidence community. This zip code includes Highland Park and parts of north central Detroit
