What happens after I complete the steps?
Successful applicants will receive an acceptance letter within 2 weeks of completing the parent-child interview. The acceptance letter will provide the details about new member orientation.
When does the program begin?
The summer session begins June 20, 2011 through July 8, 2011. Detailed information about the fall session will be provided during new member orientation.
Why do I need to apply to become a member?
The purpose of this application is to collect some basic information and about you and to get a sense of your interests and skills as well as your motivation for joining the program. Please take time to answer the questions as truthfully and completely as possible.
What should I expect for the group interview?
During the interview you will be asked questions about your leadership abilities, talents, special skills and your interest in the program. If you possess fine arts talents, we may ask to see you display your skills such as rap, dance, singing, playing an instrument, acting etc. The interview is intended to get to know you better. Please do not be nervous. We want to see your REAL personality shine through. Bring your recommendation letter to the interview.
What should parents expect at the parent-child interview?
This program will offer many great opportunities and advantages for your child. We acknowledge that parent/caregiver input and involvement in the program is contributes to the member's success. An interview with your parent or caregiver will help determine if the program is the best fit for you.
What should new HYPE members expect from the program?
You should expect to have lots and lots of fun!!! You should expect to learn about a lot of new and interesting things. What we ask is that you make a five year commitment to the program. This includes participating 5 days per week, including community service and special events. It is also required that your parent/guardian volunteer a minimum of 10 hours each year.
